Teaching on Leadership

A YOUTH SUMMIT ORGANIZED BY THE ANGLICAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP OF THE DIOCESE OF ABA THEME: THE 360 LEADER FOCUS: THE 21ST CENTURY LEADER Written by Rev Prince Uche Onyema  Introductory Remarks It is my honor and privilege to anchor this topic, The 21st Century Leader. I duff my hat to the leadership of the AYF, particularly the Chaplain, his assistant and of course, the President for your doggedness, resilience and commitment to the all round development of the youths. I have no doubt; this summit would contribute greatly to personal development and self enhancement of all participants. God will help us achieve this goal, Amen. The 21st century is characterized with a phenomenal increase in knowledge and constant changes. There is high level of scientific and technological developments as never before with their pros and cons. Understandably, these have greatly affected and influenced the way people think and live. To this end, what was obtainable in time past may not be obtainable at ...

Discipleship

Topic: Disciples Indeed Anchor Passage: John 8:31 By Rev Prince Uche Onyema  Introduction The reality of being a disciple is probably best seen in the Old Testament with a call ‘to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul’ (Deut 10.12–13). The afore-stated call includes not only keeping to God’s instructions, but also imitating or reflecting God’s character. Israel, as a whole people, was called to that kind of discipleship, by living as the people of YHWH in the midst of the nations, being distinct and faithful to its covenant with him, worshipping him alone, and living by the provision and standards of the Torah. In the New Testament, discipleship was so central to Jesus’ mission that the word is disciple appeared more than 200 times in the first five books of the New Testament.  Meaning of the word “disciple” The word disciple is expressed in the NT through the use of the term mathÄ“tÄ“s; the Greek word for...

SERMON

Finding a Lasting Security (Psalm 16:7-11) being a sermon delivered on Sunday 17th January, 2021 at St. John’s Church Osusu Aba Season: Epiphany 2 Preamble : You are gladly welcome to the 3rd Sunday of the first month of the year. It is obvious we all are very expectant and optimistic of what the year holds for us. All the good things you desire are found in Christ Jesus, who is the provider and supplier of all our needs.  In a world replete with uncertainties and fear of the unknown like ours, we all need security and protection from the vicissitudes of life: kidnapping, arm robbery, witchcraft and occultic powers, poverty etc. That’s why some of us are forced into putting our hands into what we think can secure us. But then, whatever form of security we find outside Christ is transient and temporal. This brings us to our topic:Finding a Lasting Security, Psalm 16:7-11 Security is from the root word secure. To be secured connotes safety from harm or danger. To be sure and confiden...

Topic: It is well Text: Isaiah 3:1-11 M.V: Isaiah 3:10 Introduction: One of the greatest blessings of believers is that in the midst of uncertainties and untold vicissitudes of life, God will always preserve his children. The message contained in our text was given to the people of Judah through Isaiah as a warning and a call to return unto the Lord or otherwise face the impending devastation and calamity that will come upon the Land. As at that time, they had forgotten the Lord and turned to other gods. The Lord would withdraw all supplies of food and water and hand them over to the mercy of their enemies, Isaiah warned. However, it is gratifying to know that God does not punish both the wicked and the righteous at the same time; he knows those that are his. In a wicked, perverse, idolatrous and self-seeking generation such as ours, the righteous is confident of the fact, that it is well with him. May God give us deep insight as we study. Bible Study Outline written by Rev Prince Uche Onyema on February 7, 2021 Theme: The Crucified Life: A narrow Way to Salvation Text: Matt. 7:13-14; Gal. 2:19-21 Introduction: The road to salvation isn’t an easy road, hence not too many are found walking on it as our text (Matt.7:13-14) reveals. It wasn’t easy for Jesus anyway! He abandoned his glory, came down from heaven to earth and died for our sins, even the death on the cross. Thus, the cross which was abnitio, an object of shame, suffering and reproach became a point of significance in our Christian faith. Through the cross we are saved, no longer under the law but grace, however, the narrowness of the way makes it that we are notat freedom to live the way we want. We are to live in total submission to the will and purpose of Christ as a response to His love for us. Questions for Discussion In your own words, explain what it means to live a crucified life as Paul stated in Gal.2:20. See also Romans 6:11-14; 8:9-10 In the context ...

Bible Study Outline written on May 28, 2021 Theme: Be Ye Thankful  Text: 1Thess.5:12-22 M.V:1Thess.5:18 Introduction T hankfulness is synonymous with gratefulness. It is a state of the heart expressed through words or actions in acknowledgement to God or man for what has been done, or promised to be done. It is a virtue required of people, especially believers. Jesus, in several occasions taught his disciples to be thankful. However, it is observed that in most occasions, some do not display this Christian virtue. May be, they felt what God has done is not too important or perhaps, the ones they expected God to do has not been done yet. Thus, they forgot that thanking God for the ones he has done attracts further blessings. A case in point is the story of the Ten (10) who were healed by Jesus (Luke 17:1ff). It is discovered that only one person came back to thank Him. May God open our eyes as we study. DISCUSSION GUIDE In your own words what is your understanding of this command, “...

SERMON SERIES

THE THIRD SERMON DELIEVERED AT ST. PETER’S CHURCH, 65-67 IMMACULATE AVENUE, UMUNGASI ABA BY REVD PRINCE UCHE NWAOHARU ON 30TH JAN., 2011 TOPIC: CREATED FOR A PURPOSE TEXT: EPHESIANS 2: 10; REV., 4:11 We have established that everything that exists was created by God. The psalmist agreed to this fact when he said that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, Psalm 24:1. He made all things with a design, and the design is to bring pleasure to himself. This implies that, if we bring pleasure to God, we are invariably fulfilling the purpose for which we are created. The questions now are: Have you known the purpose for which you are created? What are you doing today to bring pleasure to God? Last time I made us understand that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. This means that you are entirely different. There is no where you will go on planet earth and find the same person that is exactly, containing the same genes and DNA that you are made of. And mind you that each a...
THE SECOND SERMON PREACHED AT ST. PETER’S CHURCH, 65- 67 IMMACULATE AVENUE, UMUNGASI ABA ON 23RD JAN., 2011 BY REVD PRINCE UCHE NWAOHARU Last Sunday, I made us understand that God has got a purpose for us, both as individuals and as a people. His plans are for our own good; to give us peace and a good future. The plan takes care of the now and hereafter. For the present time, He promises to give us life, good health, and supply our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ our Lord. He also promised to grant us a place in His kingdom. Mark you that His promises are authentic; His words are as good as Himself. He cannot promise without fulfilling it. And so, He is worthy to be trusted, even in our difficult situations. Today, we are considering this topic: YOU ARE NOT AN ACCIDENT Text: Psalm 139:13, 15-16. It is obvious that God is the creator of everything that exists on planet earth; those that are seen and those that are not (see the Nicene Creed). However, circumst...
