THE SECOND SERMON PREACHED AT ST. PETER’S CHURCH, 65- 67 IMMACULATE AVENUE, UMUNGASI ABA ON 23RD JAN., 2011 BY REVD PRINCE UCHE NWAOHARU
Last Sunday, I made us understand that God has got a purpose for us, both as individuals and as a people. His plans are for our own good; to give us peace and a good future. The plan takes care of the now and hereafter. For the present time, He promises to give us life, good health, and supply our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ our Lord. He also promised to grant us a place in His kingdom.
Mark you that His promises are authentic; His words are as good as Himself. He cannot promise without fulfilling it. And so, He is worthy to be trusted, even in our difficult situations.
Today, we are considering this topic:
YOU ARE NOT AN ACCIDENT
Text: Psalm 139:13, 15-16.
It is obvious that God is the creator of everything that exists on planet earth; those that are seen and those that are not (see the Nicene Creed). However, circumstances make some people doubt whether God is still with them or not. But, our scriptural passage debunks the idea that man just came into the earth as a result of quick random selection. Man was created after God’s image. First, God conceived the idea in Gen. 1:26f made a divine call and afterwards began the practical formation in chapter 2:4. Remember that I told you that the spirit controls the physical. What could not be conceived in the spirit cannot become a reality in the physical. It took God time, energy, and mental reasoning before he created man.
If that is the case, then, it means that you are not an accident. Your coming into this earth was well planned. You were in his care, even before you were born, Hallelujah. So you are a divine project in the hand of a divine contractor. Nothing happens to you without God’s knowledge. In fact, before anything happens, He sees it, ascertains whether you can handle it before bringing it to you. In other words, before anything touches you, it had already touched Him. He is your shield, your fortress and refuge.
David understood this when he said:” For you created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13 (NIV). You are the work of God, wonderfully made for His purpose. No wonder Paul said: “For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Eph. 2:10 (NLT). Let me tell you that God knows all your days on earth, and how each of them would look like. At times, things would go well, and some other time it will not. That’s how God has made it. He allows both good and bad, but works them out for our own good. He has made everything for His own glory and purpose. That was why David sincerely asked and requested God to remind him of how brief his days on earth would be. I wish you could do likewise.
God has planned how and what we would be. You are not an accident; your maker has the manual and even the spare parts. He knows where it is pinching you right now and has got all that it takes to handle your case. There is nothing the Lord cannot do; He is an impossibility specialist. So with Him, ALL THINGS are possible. He has done it in the past; He is doing it now and will continue to do it. Your case is no exception. But the question is: Do you believe that He can do it? A man came to the disciples of Jesus and they could not solve his problem. But when Jesus came, He said: “Everything is possible for him that believes.” “Do you believe?” Unhesitatingly, the man echoed: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief” In other words, the man was asking Jesus to help his little faith. So, if you can believe, everything is possible. For God works on the basis of our faith. If you are a doubting Thomas, you might find it difficult receiving from God. James made it clear that such a man is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. And such a man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord. James went further to describe that such is a double-minded man and unstable in all he does, James 1:6-8.
So the emphasis here is centered on your faith and dependence on God, who is the creator, and who understands our frailties and weakness.
Remember, your life on earth is not an accident. God planned every bit of your life. Therefore tell that situation, that man, that woman that your life is in the hand of God. And so, no man can thwart the plan and purpose of God for your life. Not even circumstances, Amen!
Thank you and God bless you!
