BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE
TOPIC: Launch into the Deep
Text: Luke 5:1-11
M.V: Luke 5: 5
Introduction: Few weeks ago we celebrated the 2022 Father’s Sunday with its theme “With Jesus in the boat”. The ministry of Jesus on earth was associated with the use of boat as it was one of the commonest means of transportation at that time. In this passage, boat became not just a means of transportation but a platform from which the good news was sent forth. In all the synoptic Gospels, only Luke recorded this story. Peter’s willingness to hand over his boat to a ‘man’ he may not have met before in spite of the fact that, he had toiled in vain throughout the night, and Jesus’ reward of Peter’s act of obedience after preaching the gospel is very significant to our study. Again, Peter’s acceptance to launch out into the deep as Christ instructedis recommendable for all believers. Let’s therefore, sit back and launch deep into the word of life.
Discussion Guide
1. Man’s effort without Christ’s help yields to nothing. Discuss this in line with Peter’s statement in vs. 5a. See also Psalm 127:1; John 15:5
2. Peter freely and obediently handed over his boat to Jesus as a platform for preaching. Point out and discuss some of the things believers need to release for the furtherance of the Gospel.
3. In verse 5, Peter said, “nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”. Discuss the place of implicit obedience in our walk with God. See also Gen.12:1-4 and Gen. 22:1-3
4. Deep calleth unto deep-Ps. 42:7. How can believers launch into the deep things of the Lord and what are the inherent benefits? 1 Cor.2:10-12; Jer. 29:12-13; Jer. 33:2, 3; Gen 22:15-17.
Conclusion: Every miracle should as a matter of fact, push us closer to God and inspire us to do more for God. In response to what Jesus did, Peter left everything and followed Christ. In the end, he had access to the deep things of the Lord.
